When I started working on Hummerbie.com back in 2007 I had just one mission:
Educating people on how to use Open Source Content management systems and improve their search engine rankings.
Because why build a website, share your knowledge and not being found by search engines…?
So here is my site with information about the mayor content management systems like WordPress and Joomla!.
WordPress as CMS
WordPress is no just great for Blogging anymore, you can build a complete website with it or you might just get into Blogging like me.
Of course you want to make your Blogs search engine optimized.
To work with WordPress as a Content Management System you do need website hosting, a WordPress.org installation and some extra plugins like Shield and Yoast SEO, but you need less plugins then in the early days as WordPress has a lot of functionality already build in now.
As for the design of your WordPress websites, you can choice a free WordPress theme, or get a great premium theme like I did. I use Genesis + a child theme for this site.
Joomla! as CMS
Joomla! is great for building a multi-user website with team members logging in. It's easy and fast, and the new 3.x version has all it takes to get the work done when it comes to Search Engine Optimization.
For Joomla you can also get free templates as wel as premium ones. Instead of plugins for extra functions Joomla uses extensions (previously called Components).
