I have been moving a lot of content of my websites to other sites to get more focus and to consolidate some sites into one main site.
If you where looking for older content on this site you might want to check out www.Pathos-Seo.com, which is where I moved that posts to.
I did use a redirection tool to get everything into place and forwarded to the new URL's, but it's never complete so I might have missed some of them at this point in time. Sorry for that if it has effected you.
The 404's will be monitored and updated in the coming weeks, so hopefully things will improve.
Google Webmaster and Sitemap.xml
404 not found errors will come up in Google's search console, so that will help find some of the links to be redirected.
Using the sitemap.xml file will also help to clean out URL's that no longer exist.
There was one big thing that I wanted to change for a longer period of time, my permalinks option…
In the past you would see /%category%/%postname.html as the URL for a post, which was based on the old Joomla! SEF link option.
Now the WordPress permalink setting is set to Post name
To get a good change in permalinks from old to new I was looking for Dean's Permalink Migration plugin, but that is no longer on WordPress.org.
If you want to use that plugin you need to download the zip file and then upload it via Plugins -> New plugin -> Upload.
Once you have done that, go to Settings -> PermalinkMigration and put in the old permalink option. Save that and then go to Settings -> Permalinks where you have already changed the setting and click again on Save!
The last step is really important, otherwise it just might not work…
Besides creating new posts I might change the direction of this site to focus more on WordPress and SEO, leaving Joomla! to the Pathos-seo.com website.
There could also be a new theme from StudioPress.com. The Genesis framework, on which this site runs, is simply one of the best buy's I ever did and their child theme's are getting better every time. So check them out yourself if you are looking to change your own WordPress website or blog.
What's next for me? I don't know yet, I still have some mayor consolidation to do, so still a lot of work for me ahead.
There are a couple of things I am testing on Pathos-seo.com:
- change of Permalinks
- switch from Yoast SEO to The SEO Framework (very scary)
- importing more content from other related sites to be consolidated…
I will let you know what the effect will be of the change from Yoast SEO to The SEO Framework.
For now I did need to install the No Category plugin to remove the /%category%/ option in the category overview URL's. An option that I had active on the Yoast plugin.
And you? Did you have a fresh look at your website lately to see what you could change and improve?
