Search Engine Optimization for Open Source Content Management Systems

You are here:

Joomla 1.5 SEO

Looking at Joomla 1.5 there are some items that have improved with this version.
Like the possibility to use URL rewriting without .htaccess files, this is a great feature for those Joomla websites that are hosted on a Windows Platform.

However there is still al lot that has not gone into the Core release that would make Joomla evn better for Search Engine Optimization.

Most of this things can simply be overcome if you use the SEF patch of www.joomlatwork.com wich is completly free for the 1.5 version!

I will be writing a couple of post about this patch on my other Joomla SEO Blog

Besides that, you will find some articles here that will explain the use of the fields like HTML Title, Metatag Description and Keywords, as well as the Robots and Google fields.

MojoBlog taking the next step

I was just reading up on the MojoBlog site as 1guy posted this great news:

Mojoblog Post Titels,Meta and SERPs

This was one of the things that was holding be back for using the Blog component more.
Now it looks like the Title issue will be resolved.
The new mojoPub will be installed as a Plugin (mambot) and will bring mojoBlog to the next level, possibly becoming the new Number One blogging component for Joomla 1.0.x based websites.

For me, I like to get the mojoPub right now!!… but I have to wait a little longer :-)

Drupal, Joomla en WordPress big winners of Packt Publishing

The Award competition of Packt Publishing for 2007 is done!

The overall winner is Drupal!
But Joomla received the Best PHP Open Source CMS award and WordPress is the Social Networking winner.

So all three of my favorite Software packages win..

But I will surely look at MODx as it seems this is a great upcoming CMS.
Also one of the CMS’s I want to digg deeper into it TypoLight, that has its roots in Typo3.

Looking at the final results of the award I think it is well worth the efforts of all involved, Software builders are getting more attention to there products, Packt Publishing is getting more linklove than ever.. and we all learn about new great Software!

The MojoBlog Component what is Working what Not yet…

After Installation of the Component I went looking for some way to show the Recent Posts and Blog Categories in the “Sidebar”.

Fortunately there are some great modules for this available from Zerolight, and there work great, as you can seen in the Right Module Position.
So I installed the Recent Posts, Recent Comments and Blog categorie modules and published them.
Besides that, you can also install a Plugins so the Blog content can be part of the Joomla Search.

I then tried to write a post, which also functions the way you work with WordPress.
Also Uploading an Image is also not a Problem, placing it into your Post however is a different story.

Image Placement Workaround

Once the Image is uploaded, there is a statement that you can Drag and Drop it into the Post.. that does not work (yet, I guess) so you just have to Right Click the Image and fetch the properties link.
After that, Click the “img” button on the Text bar and fill in the complete path, write the caption and your done.

So the conclusion so far is that it delivers what it promises, Blogging with WordPress in Joomla!

A WordPress Blog in Joomla

The MojoBlog component is one of the best integrated Blog with Joomla.

Although it is based on WordPress and has all the WordPress characteristics, it is a full Joomla Component.
At the moment of Writing this MojoBlog is on RC 0.15, but is stable enough for me to try it… I like a Challenge..

But the installation is no challenge, it works as you would expect it to.
Be aware though, this component is only for version 1.0.12 and 1.0.13 NOT suitable for 1.5 !!
